Prof. Dr. İsmail Turkan
Prof. Dr. Ismail TURKAN earned his bachelor degree from Department of Botany in Faculty of Science at Ege University in 1980. He has been working as a full professor in Faculty of Science since 1994. He acted as a dean of Faculty of Science between 1999-2001 and as member of executive board of Ege University between 2002-2003.
Prof. Dr. Ismail TURKAN pursued his post doctoral studies for three and half years in different institutions in Japan including Genetic-Ecology Institute of Tohoku University, Plant-Cell Technology laboratory of Chiba University and Department of Biology in Kumamoto University in different time periods between 1989-2007. His postdoctoral studies were granted by Ministry of Education of Japan (Monbugakakusho) , Goho Life Science Foundation and Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). He was also invited as visiting professor and full professor for teaching and to conduct researches in Kumamoto and Tohoku University in different time periods between 2009-2018.
Upto now, he graduted 34 master and PhD students and some of them are acting as researchers and post-doc researchers in different national and international universities including Germany, Japan, Denmark, and UK.
His research interests have been mostly on drought- and salinty caused oxidative stress and antioxidant response in plants. His researches were granted by Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council (TUBITAK) and EU. So far, he conducted 9 TUBITAK 1001 and 3 COST projects on different aspects of Plant Physiology and Molecular Plant Physiology. Moreover, he is now conducting an EU Project (PRIMA) under Horizon 2020, titled “Optimal Usage of Natural Product and Biological Priming Agents to Improve Resilience of Agrosystems to Climate Change-OPTIMUS PRIME”.
Overall, until this date, Prof Dr. Ismail TURKAN has published a total of 85 papers that have received total of 4600 citations in Web of Science and his h-index is 32. According to Google Scholar, he has received 8981 citations and he has an h-index of 41.
He has been awarded with the “TÜBİTAK 2020 Science Award” in the field of basic sciences.
